Patriot Firearms Training LLC

(NON NRA) FIRST Steps Pistol:

Designed to provide a hands-on introduction to the safe handling and proper orientation to one specific pistol action type for classes of four or fewer students. This course is at least three hours long and includes classroom and range time learning to shoot a specific pistol action type. Students will learn the NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; the particular pistol model parts and operation; ammunition; 

shooting fundamentals; cleaning the pistol; and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, FIRST Steps Course completion certificate. Cost TBD

(NON NRA) Basic Pistol Shooting Course

This course is at least 8-hours long and includes classroom and range time learning to shoot revolvers and semi-automatic pistols. Students learn NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; pistol parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; range rules; shooting from the two handed standing positions; cleaning the pistol; and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the NRA Guide to the Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules 

brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, take a Basics of Pistol Shooting Student Examination, and course completion certificate.

NRA Basic Personal Protection In The Home Course

(Michigan Concealed Pistol License Class CCW/CPL)

This is an eight-hour course. Students should expect to shoot approximately 100 rounds of ammunition. Students will learn basic defensive shooting skills, strategies for home safety and responding to a violent confrontation, firearms and the law, how to choose a handgun for self-defense, and continued opportunities for skill development.

Students will receive the NRA Guide to the Basics of Personal Protection In The Home handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, the Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, and course completion certificate.

NRA Basic Personal Protection In The Home course is for law-abiding adult citizens, as defined by applicable federal, state, or local law, and experienced shooters (shooters able to show mastery of the basic skills of safe gun handling, shooting a group, zeroing the firearm, and cleaning the firearm) to maximize what can be learned from this course. Proof of shooting experience can be one of the following: NRA Basic Pistol Course Certificate, NRA FIRST Steps Course Certificate, NRA pistol competitive shooting qualification card, military DD 214 with pistol qualification, or passing the Pre-Course Assessment.

NRA Basics of Personal Protection Outside The Home Course

Comprehensive and intensive in its approach to equip the defensive shooting candidate with the skills needed to survive serious adversity.

The course teaches students the knowledge, skills and attitude essential for avoiding dangerous confrontations and for the safe, effective and responsible use of a concealed pistol for self-defense outside the home. Students have the opportunity to attend this course using a quality strong side hip holster that covers the trigger, or a holster purse. From a review of safe firearms handling and proper mindset to presentation from concealment and multiple shooting positions, this course contains the essential skills and techniques needed to prevail in a life-threatening situation.

The NRA Personal Protection Outside the Home is divided into two levels (basic and advanced). Level one is a nine-hour course and offers the essential knowledge and skills that must be mastered in order to carry, store, and use a firearm safely and effectively for personal protection outside the home. Upon completion of level one, students may choose to attend level two, which is an additional five hours of range training and teaches advanced shooting skills. After the classroom portion, students should expect to spend several hours on the range and shoot approximately 100 rounds of ammunition during level one. Level two involves five additional hours on the range and approximately 115 rounds of ammunition. The ammunition requirements are minimum and may be exceeded. Students will receive the NRA Guide to the Basics of Personal Protection Outside The Home handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure and the appropriate course completion certificates(s), NRA Basic Personal Protection Outside The Home (identifies strong-side hip holster or purse use) certificate, and NRA Advanced Personal Protection Outside The Home certificate.(Lesson Plan 2006, revised 4-09)

The NRA Basics of Personal Protection Outside The Home is for adult individuals who are not disqualified from possessing a firearm as defined by applicable federal, state, or local law and are of good repute and possess defensive pistol skills presented in the NRA Basics of Personal Protection In The Home Course. Participants must also understand the basic legal concepts relating to the use of firearms in self-defense, and must know and observe not only general gun safety rules, but also those safety principles that are specific to defensive situations. Prospective participants can demonstrate that they have the requisite knowledge, skills, and attitudes by producing an NRA Basic Personal Protection In The Home Course Certificate, or by passing the pre-course evaluation.

Level 1 Cost $225.00 plus 100 rounds & Holster needed

Level 2 Cost $125.00 plus 150 rounds & Holster needed.

Total Course Cost: $350.00 plus 250 rounds & Holster.

Defensive Pistol Course

In this class you will do 33 drills and shoot 200 rounds from many different real life shooting positions. Shooting drills were taking from the NRA Personal Protection Outside The Home and Defensive Pistol courses. This class will help you to train to shoot under stress.

We now have a shoot house built out on the range and we will be teaching how to search a house and clear rooms in this defensive pistol class.

You will not find this type of training any where in Northern Michigan!

Course Length: Approximately 2 to 3 hours


Participant equipment requirements:


-Pistol- minimum calibers, .38 Special or 9mm.

- 2 magazines or speed loaders

-Minimum 200 rounds of factory ammunition

-Eye and electronic ear protection

-Current CPL or have taking the NRA Personal Protection In The Home Course.

(Non NRA) Low Light/ No Light Defensive Pistol Shooting Course

Have you ever shot your gun in lowlight or no light at all? Do you know how your gun reacts in the dark? Do you know how you will react to shooting in the dark? Most violent attacks happen in lowlight or in complete darkness! Just by shooting in the 

dark at a stationary target on shooting range triples your stress level. Are you ready? This class help you prepare for shooting in the dark. You will need 150 rounds of ammo, electronic ear protection ( I do have 5 pair that students can use if you do not have a pair, you can find a nice pair on Amazon for $40) clear eye protection (no tinted glasses) a flashlight with a on/off button at the butt of the light and that has a lanyard. The cost of this class is $75 and is limited to 8 students. There is not to many places where you can shoot at night, we have made sure this will be a safe and legal shooting class.

Required: Pistol (NO .22LR's) 150 rounds of ammo, (2) magazines,

electronic ear protection ( I do have 5 pair that students can use if you do not have a pair, you can find a nice pair on Amazon for $40)

CPL 2.0 Defensive Pistol Shooting Course

Intensive Training For Those Who Take Carrying Seriously

This training is not for everyone.

This course is designed for those who already have a conceal carry permit*.

Our course is only for those committed to protecting themselves and/or others.

If they are not dedicated to these ideals and committed to developing the mindset necessary to carry competently and confidently, this training is not for them. All training revolves around the ideas that: 1) The best do the basics better, and 2) We don’t rise to the occasion, we fall to our level of training.

The Intermediate Course is designed for those who have secured their CPL permit, carry often and want to improve their skills before carrying every day. (Level: More Serious).

The course is very demanding; it is 3 to 4 hours of training on the range that will challenge you physically and mentally.

Must have a current Michigan CPL to take the course.

NRA Range Safety Officer Course

This course is nine hours long and is conducted in a classroom and at a shooting facility. Range Safety Officer candidates will learn roles and responsibilities of an RSO; Range Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs); range inspection; range rules; range briefings; emergency procedures; and firearm stoppages and malfunctions. Each Range Safety Officer Candidate will receive an RSO Student Study Guide, a Basic Firearm Training Program brochure, an NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, an Instructor Application/Course Evaluation form.

Private Firearms Shooting Lesson

The cost is $35 for a half hour lesson. We will provide the range, targets and one on one private lesson with a certified NRA instructor. If you do not have a firearm we have lessons for $55 for a half hour which would include a pistol ( different calibers available), 50 rounds of ammo, targets, range, and electronic eye and ear protection and of course one on one private lesson with a certified NRA instructor. The lessons are open to all levels of shooters from 

beginner to advance. We also have private concealed carry course for $350, this is the course you would take to get your conceal carry license in the state of Michigan but you would take the class in a private one on one setting with a certified NRA instructor. Lessons are available Monday –Saturday 9am to 6pm

Tactical Rifle (Intermediate)


Ever wanted to train like Law Enforcement or the military?

This class is for the person who is familiar with the basics of operating the semi-auto and knows how to effectively

handle the rifle. The student will learn to shoot on the move, shoot at multiple targets involving different positions, shoot while utilizing cover, and shoot a decision-making field course. Drills are designed to be challenging to improve upon your handling skills and shooting fundamentals. This course is very strenuous and you must be in good health and fitness to take this course. (pre-course meeting mandatory!) Course requirements include at least two magazines, a sling, and 3 snap caps for safe loading and unloading drills.

This class is taught by members of the Cincinnati Police Department and The Cincinnati SWAT Team.

Length: One day, 8 hours

Ammunition: 500 Rounds

Tactical Handgun

This Advanced Shooting Class is designed for the individual who is looking for more challenge in their shooting skills. This person is very proficient at using their handgun and would like to learn techniques to refine their precision skills. This class will teach how to shoot on the move and shoot

at moving targets. It will teach the proper use of cover and concealment for personal defense, and reality drills involving shoot and no shoot situations, and decision-making involving the concealed carry of a handgun. Drills are designed to challenge the shooter and build confidence in handling skills. This class has extensive range time and uses advanced target report technology (legal exploding targets, steel targets, breakable targets & glow targets) In this class you will also train under low light / night conditions.

This class is taught by members of the Cincinnati Police Department and The Cincinnati SWAT Team.

NOTICE: This class is NOT for the new or inexperienced shooter. This

class is severely physically and mentally challenging. Students will be

put under stressful conditions. Learning to perform under stress is

crucial to prevailing in a defensive encounter.

Range drills are completed with 1 to 1 student instructor ratios. Preregistration face

to face interviews with prospective participants wishing to enroll in this course are mandatory.

The award-winning crime prevention and personal safety seminar Refuse To Be A Victim®. Seminars teach methods to avoid dangerous situations and prevent criminal confrontations. Experts agree the most important factor in surviving a criminal
